Biographical Information on Krystian Tkaczewski

Krystian Tkaczewski, described as a “Polish Virtuoso” by the Kosciuszko Foundation, is pursuing his piano career in both Europe and the USA.  He had his triumph in having his Carnegie Hall debut in April 2007.  Anthony Aibel (critic of the New York Concert Review) wrote among others: ...Tkaczewski was elegant, ...showed in-depth knowledge, ...played with passion,... showed power-house technique, ... Reading of Rachmaninov and of Prokofiev was excellent, ...Szymanowski was exquisitely shaped, shwing lovely shadings and constrast of dynamics.  He showed devotion and natural affinity for music of his homeland...

Krystian Tkaczewski, born in 1980 in Tarnów, Poland, started his musical education at the Paderewski Music School in Tarnów in the class of J. Iwaneczko. He studied at the Chopin College in Warsaw (1995-2000) in the studios of G. Weiss and Dr. Pawel Skrzypek. In 2000 Krystian became a student of Olga Rusina at the Academy of Music in Wroclaw. Completing his program of studies a year ahead of time, he graduated in 2004 with a Master of Arts degree. In 2007, Krystian received a graduate diploma at the University of Hartford Hartt School in the class of the famous pianist Oxana Yablonskaya. At present he is pusring his Doctor of Music Arts degree at the University of Hartford.

Krystian Tkaczewski took part in many competitions and festivals around the world, including 1993 Regional Piano Competition in Tarnów (2nd prize) 1993 National Piano Competition in Warsaw (6th prize) 1994 European Piano Teachers Association Piano Competition in Cracow (3rd prize) 1998 International Music Competition in Ancona, Italy (5th place) 2000 Konzerteum Piano Competition in Athens, Greece (2nd prize) 2001 European Piano Competition in Bari, Italy (Grand Prize) 2001 Inter-fest Piano Competition in Bitola, Macedonia (1st prize) 2002 Nueva Acropolis Piano competition in Madrid (2nd Prize), 2002 International Piano Competition in Bologna (2nd prize) 2002 International Piano Competition in Morocco (finalist, and special prize for musical personality) 2003 International Piano Competition in Andorra (semifinalist) 2003, 2005 Symanowski International Competition in Lodz, Poland (semifinalist) 2005 Chopin International Piano Competition (preliminary round) 2006 Kate Kinley Fellowshipi Competition in Chicago (finalist) 2006 Connecticut State Music Teachers' Association Piano Competition in Hartford, CT (Gold prize) 2006 Artists international Auditions in New York - winner, 2006 Bradshaw &Buono Piano Competition in New York - II prize, 2009 American Protege Piano Competition in Carnegie Hall - I prize, 2010 - Iturbi Music Competition in Los Angeles - finalist.

He was invited to take part in various festivals such as the Chopin Festival in Gaming, Austria, Chopin Festival in Antonin, Poland, Festival of Polish Pianists in Slupsk, Chopin Festival in Busko-Zdroj, "Tydzien Talentow" in Tarnow, Musical Floraries in Warsaw, Chopin Forum in Wroclaw, Interr-Fest Bitola in Macedonia, and a concert series at teh Paderewski House, and recitals at the Chopin House in Zelasowa Wola.  In June 200, Krystian was featured in the 50th Anniversary of Society of Polish Artist Musicians gala in Royal Castle in Warsaw as a soloist with Polish Radio Orchestra under the baton of L. Borowicz.

Krystian has concertized on three continents and 12 countries including Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Czech Republic , Macedonia, Morocco, and the US. He perfected his art in collaboration with pianists as: A. Jasinski, R. Smendzianka, B. Hessse-Bukowska, J. Olejniczak, S. Poczekin, F. Gottlieb, P. Checinski, and played with the Harford Symphony Orchestra, Polish National Radio Orchestra, Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leopoldinum Orchestra, Connecticut Virtuosi, the Tarnów Chamber Orchestra, and the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra, conducted by E. Cumming, L. Borowicz,  Z. Graca , M. Gawronski, K. Górski, and M. Kolaska, A. Mackiewicz.

Recipient of several scholarships and awards including the Chopin scholarship in 1995, the Wroclaw Music Academy Academic Scholarship for 2001-2004, the Polish Minister of Culture Scholarship in 2002, 2005, 2007 (Mloda Polska) the City of Tarnów President’s Scholarship for 2001-2002, in 2005, Krystian Tkaczewski is an active member of the Society of Polish Musical ARtists SPAM since 2004.  Krystian is a founder and director of the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford and  Artistic Director of Fryderyk Chopin Society of Connecticut.
