Korean born Canadian cellist Dongkyun An received his very first musical education from Chun-Ja Choi in Korea at the age of 13.

After moving to Edmonton, Canada, he continued receiving important guidance from Tanya Prochazka, and Colin Ryan, and David Tutt. Dongkyun studied at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Switzerland under world renowned English cello soloist Raphael Wallfisch, and baroque cello studies under Swiss cellist Martin Zeller.

Apart from his studies in Europe, he has received much guidance from such international cellists as Pieter Wiespelwey, Gary Hoffman, Shauna Rolston, Hans Jensen, Gavriel Lipkind, Matt Haimovitz, Aldo Parisot, and Anner Bylsma.

He is also a top prize winner in several international and national competitions, scholarships and grants from:  71st Concours OSM (Montreal Symphony Orchestra) -1st Prize, 18th International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria - 2nd Prize 67th Prague Spring International Music Competition - 2nd Prize, Sylva Gelber Music Foundation, Canada Council for the Arts, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Anne Burrows Music Foundation, Winspear Fund for Music.

He was invited to perform in Edmonton Recital Society, a frequent guest artist at the GAIA Chamber music Festival in Thun, Switzerland, a frequent guest artist in the Conway Hall, performed with Pilsen Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and a frequent collaboration with the world renowned Israeli cellist Gavriel Lipkind and the Lipkind Quartet.

He has performed in many world renowned concert halls such as AMUZ Concertzaal, Hessischer Rundfunk, Rudolfinum. His recent highlights include a Carnegie Hall debut recital at Weill Recital hall.
